Growing in the Knowledge of Him

“May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord” (2 Peter 1:2 NLT).

“Knowledge is power.” We hear this many times, especially in school days from the lips of teachers and classmates, even at workforce, management motivates employees to keep-up to the current information technology and so forth and so on. Human nature desires to win in every aspect of life’s challenges; it could be in sports, academics, politics, entertainment, relationships, in business, and even world domination. It is a desire for glory and gain. Human nature invented a subtle way to neutralize his opponent – it is to “put him in the dark.”

To “put him in the dark” means to isolate an adversary from all knowledge of your plans, strategies, strengths, capabilities, abilities, and your weakness and ignorance. You set him-up to fall into your traps. You take advantage of his ignorance and his ignorance of the rules of the game.

To some extent, there are men and women in this corrupt world who trained themselves to operate in this hideous “chess game” tactics. It is a tactics of taking advantage of every opportunity, and ultimately to destroy business partners in the name of self-gain and self-exaltation. Their ultimate objective is to win at all costs – it is to profit for self. The spirit behind the motive is evil ambition and greed. It is the very spirit of Satan.

Obviously, we know that the devil is a loser and is always a loser. God has already condemned him even before the foundation of the earth, and Christ Jesus has defeated him on the cross and His resurrection. You need to realize that the children of God are fighting against a defeated foe. The only thing left for the devil is to lie and bluff. If you rebuke him and resist him in the Name of Jesus, he will run away like a lunatic. You see, don’t be scared of his antiques and scare tactics. He is just a bluffer.

The devil is out there setting-up every believer for failure. The enemy is waiting for an opportunity to devour a non-prepared believer, a believer who is ignorant of the truth, and ignorant of the ways of evil. A believer who opens his heart to evil-thought becomes a doorway for Satan to steal, kill and destroy. The devil hides the truths from believers. He lies. He condemns. He keeps his subjects in the darkest corner of ignorance. He will attempt to confuse and distort truth of the Word of God. Because the devil is the god of this world, he has the authority and the power to seal this world from the truth.

Sad to say, many believers are ignorance of all these. Their spiritual eyes are not fully open to see the subtle works of the enemy. Not only the works of the enemy, but millions and millions of Christian have little or have no idea of their identity in Christ Jesus. Many of them have no clue of what power and authority they have in the Name of Jesus.

Listen to the prayer of Paul to the Ephesians and Colossians.

“So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better” (Colossians 1:9-10 NLT).

“I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 1:19 NLT).

The bottom line of this prayer is asking God for spiritual insight, spiritual understanding, and spiritual knowledge of the power of God that is already in the possession of a believer. A believer possesses the incredible power of God inside of him, but many of believers are ignorant this truth. Instead of living in a victorious life, they live a life of defeat, a life that is just coping to survive, living a life of a continuous struggle, living the “false-comfort” of poverty, and they thought and foolishly believe that this kind of life glorifies God.

You see, faith is based on what you really understand and believing it for. It is not enough to know the truth. You need to be sold out on what you believing for. No matter how they torture you mind, your emotion, physically and spiritually, you stand on what you believe, because you know for sure, beyond any reasons that you understand and know what you are believing for.

Billions of people are longing for peace and grace from God. They spend billions and billions of dollars (or whatever the highest currency or value) just to find peace and grace for the entire planet, or for a single confused and deteriorating soul. But they could not find the answer. The same holds true with millions and millions of church goers, they can’t find peace and grace of God because their eyes are blinded with hardness of hearts. They rationalize with God and always searching to justify their errors and mistakes.

A very good exemplar is divorce. Until now, Christians are justifying that divorce is alright because Moses allowed them to do it. However, they are blinded to see the results and the outcome of divorce. It is quite amazing and incredible to witness men and women who go for second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and so on and so on numbers of divorce, without any sense of guilt and conviction. One divorce should have been a call for repentance, for renewing of the mind, for mortifying of the flesh, and humbling before God. But the hardness of their heart continues in justifying the lust of their flesh and their pride of life.

You see, divorce is not God’s will. But people still do it. They justify it because Moses allowed it or gave them the permission. But the real issue is the hardness of the heart. Divorce should not have been an issue if and only if men obeyed the will of the Lord in the first place. I believe that the devil has his hay day in every-living daylight of a divorced person, because that person is living as a result of the hardness of his heart. It takes the mercy and the grace of God to rescue him from the torture of the enemy.

The more we have the knowledge of God and Christ, the more peace and grace abound in our lives. It is a must that we agree with the prayer of Paul to the Ephesians and Colossians so that the eyes of our understanding will see the power of God that is within us. And when the eyes of our understanding is open, then we will see God’s goodness, His mercy and grace, His favor, His strength, His provisions, His anointing, His healing, His salvation and deliverance from all works the enemy. Your outlook in life shall change 180 degrees. You will never approach God like a beggar and beg for the things that you already have.

You will approach the throne of God with boldness and have fellowship with the Father. You are not there to ask for anything because He has already provided you all things that you supposed to have in living Godly life. You are in His presence to give Him joyful thanksgiving and praise for the provisions, for the grace and for the peace.

You prayer changes drastically. Your prayer is not self-centered anymore. Your prayer is not about you asking for yours only. But now you are praying for others, you are now interceding; you are praying the prayer of Paul for your church, for your friends and co-workers.
