Renewing of Your Mind

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may proved what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:2 NKJV).

One of the most important things a newly born again believer needs to do right away is to renew his mind according to the word of God.  And by doing so, the newly born again believer will be able to know the perfect will of God in his life in a simple way.  It will also save him from any wasted time and difficulties making decisions in following the will of God.  God is faithful to let us know His perfect will for us.  He is always there to reveal His plans and purposes to His children.

Renewing of the mind is not that easy.  You have to make a choice to change the way you think. No one can change the way you think except you.  Change is a choice.  Nobody can change you, but you.  God will not do it for you, but you have to do it for yourself.  You see, a person can listen to thousands and thousands of sermons and teachings of the Word of God, and yet his mind remains the same old mind.

Unless you respond positively to the word of God and apply them into your life, your mind will never be renewed.  This is the same principle with faith – Faith without works is dead.  A mind that does not submit to the Word of God remains an old mind.

The moment you are born again, you received in your spirit (inner man) the Life of God and His Divine nature.  Your spirit becomes a New Creation in Christ.  Your spirit was re-created by the Life of God the moment you are born again.  However, your mind and your body remains the same as they are; they are never born again or re-created.  Only your spirit is re-created.  And now that you have been born again, your mind has to yield to the voice of your re-created spirit to live in the will of God.

Your re-created spirit is now having fellowship with the Son, the Holy Spirit and the Father God.  Your re-created spirit is now feeding with the living Word of God and immersing himself in the presence of God. Your re-created spirit is now leading you and directing your mind to conform into the ways and of the word of God.  Your spirit is communicating to your mind to follow the light of the word of God.  Your spirit is now acting as your light and conscience.

As your mind submits to the voice of your spirit, your mind is being renewed according to the ways and the word of God. The key point here is to immerse your spirit into the living Word of God and begin to act on the word.  You have to meditate and continue on to meditate on the word (See Joshua 1:8).

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect” (Romans 12:2 NLT).

Your mind must be changed or renewed in accordance with the Word of God and to the ways of God.   To renew your mind or to make changes in the way you think, you have to stop copying the behavior and customs of this world.  You have to replace the old mind with the new by rebuilding your mind according to the word of God.  You need to start thinking new thoughts and new ideas that are according to the ways of God.

There is no short cut in the renewing of the mind or changing the way you think in accordance to the Word of God.  The epistle of Paul declares that we have the mind of Christ.  Christ means the Anointing.  Therefore, we have the mind of the Anointing.  The anointing releases us from all bondage of the enemy.  You see, the Holy Spirit knew from the beginning that there is going to be a good fight of faith that the believers will encounter in the future. And that future is now. I want you to know that the mind is the battle ground between the spirit of faith (2 Corinthians 4:13) and the spirit of our mind (Ephesians 4:23).

It takes the grace of God and the fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit to have the spirit of our mind be renewed.  Once we respond positively to God’s grace and His anointing, then the battle is won.  You see, the Bible is here with us all the time, but the mighty anointing of the Holy Spirit and His grace shall be received by faith.  The more faith we have, the more grace and anointing will work for us.

Here are some scriptural foundations in renewing the spirit of our mind:

Allow your mind to rest in Him and be convinced that the ways of God are perfect and His Word is proven.   “As for God, His ways is perfect; the word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him” (Psalm 18:30).

Do not dwell in the past, pursue the future.  “… forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead” (Philippians 3:13).

Disassociate from the ungodly. “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful” (Psalm 1:1).

Seek godly counsel.  “Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter days” (Proverbs 19:20).

Think positive.  “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things” (Philippians 4:8).

Make a firm decision to commit yourself to the Lord and to His works. “Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established” (Proverbs 16:3).

Put your mind always in humility.  “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God” (Philippians 2:5-6).
