Biblical Leadership Style: The Wisdom of God

1 Corinthians 3:19-21 (NLT) – For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scripture say, “He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness.” And again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise; he knows they are worthless.” So don’t boast about following a particular human leader.

Human beings have authored millions of books and articles about leadership and majority of these “self professed successful leaders” have misled millions in believing a perverted principle of leadership. There are only two kinds of leadership on earth: “leadership by the wisdom of God” and “leadership by the wisdom of man.” There is no in-between. The leader could be under the guidance of the Spirit of the living God or under the influence of a spirit of darkness. There is no gray area or neutral ground in the arena of leadership.

I have read many leadership books and articles and to my amazement many authors seldom or not at all give any reference or credit to God and to His Word. During the course of my readings, I discovered that what I actually read is just pure wisdom coming from a mere man, or from the wisdom of this world. The principles they represent appear so good but they are just material and physical success. The truth is the success they’re talking about will only remain here on the planet earth and will never ever make it to the kingdom of God and into the new heavens and new earth.

First of all let me tell you the Biblical truth regarding SUCCESS:

“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do” (Joshua 1:8 NLT).

Joshua the successor of Moses was given the Scripture to serve him as the only guiding light to prosperity and success in all he do. He will lead the nation of Israel to prosperity, peaceful living, abundance in health and wealth, a nation feared by the world in military might, and to be feared as a result of the wisdom of God. Joshua’s success goes beyond the material and physical things. He will reign and rule and govern in the new earth and the new heavens in the kingdom of God.

There’s no leader of any existed or existing country on earth have ever accomplished this kind of success, never in human history. Joshua is the man. His leadership style is the faith in God. The scripture declares that we overcome the world through our faith, by our faith and with our faith in God. And the only person who can claim success and flawless leadership is God – no one else. History tells us that leaders who did not follow God’s principles and the scriptures have ended their careers in many gruesome ways. Their personal lives have been ruined by gold, girls, and glory or whatever.

True success can only be attained by living according to the principles of the Scriptures. If a book (authored by a mere man) that talks about success and has no bearing on the principles of the word of God, then everything that book says is a failure. That book is just pure “Dr. Feel Good” baloney. That book contains mere man’s opinion and that is all. It has no foundation of success that can hold eternity. In contrast, God’s Word is eternal, heaven and earth shall pass away but God’s Word shall remain and will come to pass. God’s principle is founded in eternity.

It is no wonder that the bestselling book in the history of humans is the B-I-B-L-E and it still stands at this very moment. The “success” that the scripture is talking about is not only geared on temporal times, not limited to the existing world system. Biblical success is geared towards the eternal reign of believers in Christ, believers’ eternal ruler ship, leadership, and government on the new earth forever and ever. It is the eternal leadership of every faithful in Christ to rule the new world.

For example, a faithful janitor in Christ who faithfully conducts his business in the Lord without asking for any recognition or any form of exultation from human beings for that thing he do is a perfect fit for true biblical success and leadership. That janitor is geared towards eternal leadership and he will reign over cities in the new earth forever and ever. He could be a janitor here on earth for a few years but a ruler or a governor of a city on the new earth forever.

Biblical success is finding and knowing your role what God has given you, and to play it faithfully in the body of Christ. Being successful in life is doing what you are supposed to be doing in the body. You need to find out if you are part of the hands, arms, legs, head, back, chest, and so forth in the many parts of the body. It is a miserable thing and a failure in life if you are in a wrong place of the body. You cannot be an ear if you are called to be a finger. God will not back you up in any plans and dreams that you are fighting for because you are in rebellion in His plans for you. You need to be a team player.

The wisdom of man will tell you principles of success that are actually the very opposite of God’s wisdom. For example, the world’s system never operates in faith. Faith is not in their vocabulary. They are totally dependent on their resources, strength, and intellect. The system of the world will never embark on things by faith. It will make sure that there is a solid material tangible, physical resource that guarantees its venture. Therefore, faith is out of the question.

However, the wisdom of God is totally the opposite of the world because it talks faith. Faith is where a believer in Christ separates himself from the system of this world. It’s difficult for a man who lives for many years in the world system and then jump in to the unknown and operate in faith. He needs to renew his mind according to the ways of God. It takes quality time and there is no short cut. He needs to surround himself with the word of God and not allow doubt and fear to influence his mind.

A faithless person is useless in the kingdom of God. As a matter of fact he becomes a dangerous human being and a disaster for those who know how to operate in faith. A good example is the 10 spies who feared to enter and posses the promise land, except for Joshua and Caleb. The 10 spies dragged the whole nation of Israel into the wilderness to live there for forty years and then died for nothing. You don’t want to be with someone or even working with anybody that will drag you into the wilderness, no sir. As for me and my house, we will enjoy all the goodness of God that is freely given to us.

Joshua knew that He was called by God to lead His people to the promise land. It is not enough to know that you are called to do a thing for God, but God requires you to follow the Book of Instruction (the Scripture), to meditate night and day. God had required Joshua to soak himself in His Word day in and day out. It is digesting the instructions of God and immersing himself into the ways of God on how to deal with things, especially the big ones, the impossible ones to conquer.

If you are in the right place and in the right time where God wants you to be, then that is success to the nth degree. Every demon in hell will leave you alone. Even Satan himself will never dare to put his finger on you, he may try but it will not prosper. This is the wisdom of God: allowing yourself to be in the perfect place in the Body of Christ. And when you do, there is no limit in doing the works of God. Jesus said that greater things shall you do. And if you are in your right place, you are not a hindrance to progress of the gospel of Christ.

There is no limit in conquering and accomplishing anything in this world, that if you are in the right place and in the right time where God has called you. Joshua knew that he was in the perfect will of God. Joshua faithfully waited for his time to lead. He faithfully subjected himself to the authority and leadership of Moses. Joshua knew that God was preparing him for the big one in his life, but he needed to prepare himself. He needed to learn the ways of God. He needed to learn to be a faithful follower for him to be good leader. He was there at all times supporting Moses and serving Moses without complain, without grumble, but rather total obedience to his great mentor.

And when the time came for Joshua to lead, it was a different Joshua that came out from Egypt. Forty years of molding and learning and staying put in the faith have prepared Joshua for the big one. Joshua has proven that God is not a liar. He has proven that God is not a hyped. He has proven that God is no “Dr. Feel Good.” Joshua conquered everything that needed to be conquered. He is bold. He lives and walks and talks faith. When he opens his mouth, faith comes out. You could even smell his faith from a distance. There is no fear in him. The devil trembles at Joshua’s presence. God fulfilled His word to Joshua and the nation of Israel lived and enjoyed the blessings of God under his leadership.

“Not a single one of all the good promises the Lord had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true” (Joshua 21:45 NLT).
