“But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand, and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house: and it fell. And great was its fall” (Matthew 7:26-27 NKJ).
The Bible declares that one of the reasons for a believer to suffer or having hardships in life is due to a direct or indirect working of the enemy – the devil. The other reason is due to a self-inflicted suffering or hardship. It’s either the believer has learned the hard way or the believer is just plain foolish.
In the gospels, the Lord Jesus Christ suffered from the many persecutions in the hands of the religious fanatics and at times they even attempted to kill Him. Not only Jesus but the believers in the Book of Acts also suffered from the many persecutions in the hands of the various religious sects. Evidently the devil cannot stand their faith. They were preaching the Name of Jesus and people were being saved and healed with signs, wonders and miracles. These supernatural acts of the believers were just normal in those days. This was the way they conducted themselves – living in the supernatural.
On the other hand, many of the believers of today have distorted the meaning of sufferings. For them, sufferings are sickness, disease, poverty and lack. And worst of all, they sincerely consider that having an incurable disease is the will of God in their lives. Many of believers in poverty stricken nations also believe that being in poor is the will of God, and some of them are proud of being poor. Not so my friends, Jesus said that He came to give us life; and that life is a life more abundantly. The devil came to steal, to kill and to destroy life. It is the plan of the devil, from the beginning to keep you away from the blessings of God. The devil will show no mercy by putting you in pain and in suffering all the days of your life if you will allow him to do so.
To suffer for Christ is to continue to love Jesus in the midst of extreme persecutions. It is to love Him and to serve Him in spite of the many oppositions from men. To suffer for Christ is to remain faithful in His love, no matter what the circumstances maybe.
Once I had a life of poverty and it was not fun, it was not good, it was not a blessing. As a matter of fact, I felt it was a cursed to live in that kind of life. I had a disease at one time, and it was not fun, it was not good, and for sure it was not a blessing. But thanked God for His word. His word says I am healed, and His word says I am rich. I am what the word of God says I am. Now I am free from sickness, free from disease, and free from poverty. Hallelujah!
The Lord Jesus Christ has given us His word to overcome the works of the devil. The scripture above, tells us that him who obeys God’s Word is like a wise man who built his house on a rock. But the foolish man, who built his house on the sand, when the rain came and flood arose and the winds beat on his house, the house collapsed. And great was the fall of it.
People fall in the hands of the enemy – the devil, when they fail to follow and obey the word of God. Even in the Old Testament the nation of Israel was beaten to death because of disobedience. They were stubborn, refused to follow God’s instructions, rebelled against His commands which is the word of God. You have to realize that there is always, always a negative consequence when you disobey the word of God. God will not punish you because you disobeyed Him. It is the devil that will beat you up without mercy when you walk outside of God’s protection, when you walk against God’s principles.
Obedience in His word is a sign of growing in spiritual life. Jesus said that His words are spirit and they are life (John 6:63). In John 1:1 the Word was God. And in John 1:14 the Word became flesh and that was Jesus. Jesus is the living word of God manifested in the flesh. Everything Jesus has commanded us is the Father’s word. The truth is that anyone that violates God’s word opens himself to the attacks of the enemy. Also, any man who does not have the word of God remains in darkness. The only way to get you out of darkness is having the living word of God in your life, and that is Jesus.
“But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God – and righteousness and sanctification and redemption” (1 Cor. 1:30 NKJ).
As a believer, you must realize that God made Jesus to be your wisdom or to become your wisdom. During Jesus’ earthly ministry, although He is God, Jesus lived as a man. Jesus is full of God’s wisdom, lived according to the will of the Father, and nothing came out of His mouth but the word of the Father. Jesus operated in the wisdom of the Father throughout His days on earth. And the same is true with you. It is God’s will that you operate in wisdom of God.
God’s wisdom is not a product of your mind or intellect. It is not acquired knowledge from reading books or spending years and years in the universities. God’s wisdom does not operate with feelings and emotions. It is not being a street smart or becoming a hustler. God’s wisdom dwells in your spirit, the inner man. As a believer, the Spirit of Christ is united with your spirit and become one with your spirit. Your spirit then educates your mind, or renews your mind according to the wisdom of God. Your flesh then follows through and obeys the wisdom of God.
It takes feeding on the word of God and putting the word into action in order to gain the wisdom of God to manifest in your life. Putting the word of God in action is to simply obey the word. Just do it! Mary said that whatever Jesus says do it. When we put God’s word in action His word works.
“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God, these things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, …” (1 Cor. 2:12-13 NKJ).
As believers, we did not receive the spirit of the world, but the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will reveal to us the things that have been freely given to us by God. And that is the wisdom of God, the free things that God has been given to us to enjoy in this life. The wisdom of man cannot comprehend why and how God has given us these free things to enjoy in life.
Becoming a Christian is not boring. It is not a dull life. Many Christians are bored in life. They are dried up to the bones. No wonder they backslide and re-join the world. They see church as negative entity, a suppressive force that chalks out the fun stuff in their life. For them Sunday service has become ritualistic obligation to perform, a drag. No life in it. It is dry, dull, boring and pure ceremonial activity. They felt they are forced and pressured to participate in this religious fanaticism. For them it is another family tradition, a cultural norm, and another role of being a citizen of whatever country they belong with. Sadly, some even views the church is all hypocrisy. It is no wonder that many of the church goers all over the world are not happy. They are drying to death because they eat the wrong food. They are being fed with poison instead of healthy, anointed, and life giving word of God.
The wisdom of God is far different from the wisdom of man. Jesus’ life on earth is a joyful life. He is a happy man. He is not a religious freak. And most of all Jesus is not a man that accuses everyone who commits sins. He does not walk around the street looking for faults or errors and mistakes of people. I would like to remind you that Jesus is in the business of showing the love of the Father. Jesus is not a sin finder and then rubbed them in people’s face. No, no, no, Jesus loves you so much that he gave himself for you. He took your sins away and He healed you and freed you from all sickness and disease.
Jesus is inviting you to come and see the things that God has done for your life. They are all free. And when you respond to Him, your life will never be the same again. Only follow and obey His word. Jesus said that he, whom the Son of God sets free, will be free indeed. Do not limit God in your life. God owns the heaven and the earth, all the things that in the earth belongs to Him. They are all yours because you are a child of God. Only obey His word.
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves” (James 1:22 NKJ)
You must also realize that you are required to do the word of God. You are not expected to just be a listener and do nothing about what you heard (His Word). A person who eats too much and continues to eat and eat and never exercise or never do anything will soon die of a having too much in his system. Too much cholesterol, too much fat, too much sugar, too much blood pleasure and too much cravings will put you to death sooner than you think. The same holds true with the word of God.
The word of God is to be put into practice. The word of God is life. Life means there is dynamics, there is growth, there is movement, there is chain reaction, there is result and so on and so forth. When you follow and obey God’s word, you will be like the wise man who built his house on the rock. When the storms of life come and show up on your door, you are secure, fearless, bold, victorious, and over comer.
Show me a victorious Christian and I will show you who is obedient to the word of God. We obey the word of God through our spirit. Our spirit has already made a firm decision to follow His word and then step into the realm of faith. Although things surround us seem impossible to fix, incurable, terminal, irreversible, no hope, no answer, or whatever, but in the eyes of faith there is always a final solution, and that is the word of God. Whatever the word says to your situation, will surely come to pass.
Faith is not based on what you feel. Faith is not based on your five physical senses. Faith is based on the obedience of the word of God. When you obey His word then you stepped into the realm of faith. Many have been deceived or have been delusional because they don’t know how to obey God’s word. For some reasons, they wait for some evidence (feel or see) before they believe God’s word. Faith is a spiritual force. Faith is not according to the power of the mind or mind over matter. Faith comes from the living word of God. When God speaks and you receive His word into your spirit, the living word, then faith builds up. And when you act on that word, that word will manifest in the physical realm.
The key to abundant living is to live a life according to the will of God, and that is simply putting the word of God into action. Obedience to His word will take you into the deep things of God. Obedience to His word will take you into His presence, where God will manifest Himself to you. Praise the Lord!
