The Blessings of Abraham

“Now Abraham was old, well advanced in age; and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things” (Genesis 24:1 NKJ).

So he said, “I am Abraham’s servant. The Lord has blessed my master greatly, and he has become great; and He has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male and female servants, and camels and donkeys” (Genesis 24:34-25 NKJ).

Old Abraham was ready to depart from the physical and material earth. He was bound to the other world, the spiritual world. Finally, he will spend eternity in the presence of his God, and friend. In His presence, the physical and material things do not exist, because they are irrelevant. Nevertheless, if that was the case, then why God had to bless Abraham in all things while he was in the physical and material world?

If Abraham was bound to the spiritual world (most people call it heaven), why is it that God had to bless him with all things, including the physical and material things while living in this world? Is there a need for the blessings? Is God reasonable? You may argue that if you know that you are bound to the other world, the spiritual world or heaven (if you will), then do you really care if God has to bless you with all things, the physical and material things? Any way, you cannot take all these physical and material blessings to heaven, right?

It’s so amazing that many in Christian circles believe that they don’t need the blessings in this world, because they say they are heaven bound any ways. They are satisfied with the very little blessings that will fit for themselves, yes, the blessing for themselves alone. They don’t believe that a believer needed a whole lot of exceedingly and abundantly blessings from the Lord. Sadly, they have missed the real meaning of the blessings of God.

The blessing of God is not designed for individual consumption alone. The blessings of God have to be shared with others. In Genesis 12:2, God said, “… I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others.” You see, God said that you will be a blessing to others. The purpose of God’s blessing is to bless all. And God needed channels of blessings to bless others.

God wants volunteers to be channels of His Blessing. Abraham and the rest of his sons and sons’ children from generations to generations, who have responded to this call, were blessed and became channels of blessing to the world.

Someone has said that it is not true to say that God wants everybody rich. However, he never supported his claim with scripture at all. But scripture declares that the “The blessings of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it” (Proverbs 10:22 NKJ).

You see, the prosperity message has been severely tarnished because people have missed the real meaning of God’s blessings. Riches in this material and physical world have to be given away, not be kept for self consumption. It is OK to be rich as long as you are able to give away, all your riches in a heartbeat, the moment God tells you to do give them away.
You see, the bottom line of prosperity message is that, it is the wisdom of God in the end times being thrusts (like a double sword) in every heart to expose the evil heart of greed, covetousness, lover of self, and ignorance. And many have fallen into this living sword.

Mark 10: 21-22 (NLT): Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. “There is one thing you haven’t done,” he told him. “Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come and follow me.” At this the man’s face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.

Be advised that Jesus is still in the business of exposing the real attitude of the heart, especially on money matters. The rich man went away sad when Jesus told him to give away all his wealth, because he was so wealthy. You see, God tests every man’s heart (rich and poor, believers and unbelievers), especially those who preach the Word.

First and foremost, the Gospel is not for sale. Jesus preached for free. At that time, it was up to Jesus’ listeners and followers to bless him or not. Jesus had never placed a price tag for all of His speaking engagements. The apostle Paul never did either. Paul used his own personal resources (and money) to preach the Word. And God has blessed him exceedingly more abundantly.

On the other side of the spectrum, God wants to bless you exceedingly abundantly that you might be a blessing to others. The Bible will prove to you that all men of God who walked in His ways, who obeyed His word were blessed by God. They lived the life here on earth to the fullest, their children never beg for bread, but live mighty. And they were all channels of God’s blessings. God blesses His servant because of God’s goodness.

One of the characters of God is that He gives rewards. In Hebrews 11:6 “…He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” You cannot separate the blessings of the Lord from someone who is seeking Him with all his heart. It is like getting soaked with water when you jumped into a river or into a pouring rain. Not only that God blesses you with all things, God blesses you to be a blessing to others.

“The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; but the earth He has given to the children of men” (Psalm 115:16NKJ).

Because God owns the heavens and the earth, it is just natural for Him to share His goodness to His people. God gave the earth to his people. You need to realize that every good thing that comes out from the earth belongs to the children of God. I thanked God because I own a piece of land with my own house on it, and I could say that property is mine. God has blessed me, and has given this property for me and my household. Praise God!

I believe in my heart that as a child of God, you must have a piece of property on earth, because the earth has been given to you by your Father in heaven. And that you can boldly declare that the property belongs to you right in the face of the devil. It is a testimony that God is good, and you can say that before the devil that the children of God own the earth, and not the devil. Because this earth has been given to us by our Father God in Heaven, therefore, let’s take it and receive it.

People freak out when you talk about blessings. They suspect that you are setting them up for a “highway robbery” of some sort. They think that the blessing and the money are the same thing. They are not. You can have all the money in the world but you are not blessed. On the other hand, you can be exceedingly and abundantly blessed without a penny in your pocket. Yes, you can be blessed even without a coin or whatever in your pocket.

This is where the prosperity message collapses, some of those who have received the real message of prosperity, have received the message wrongfully or receive it mistakenly. They believe that prosperity message is all about how to be rich or how to have more money. I can assure you that many of those who are financially rich are unable to sleep with a good night sleep right at this very moment.

Basically, the world measures success based on how much financially worth an individual is. The world says, so and so is worth x amount of billions or whatever. They don’t care if they are multiple losers because of failures from marriage, family, relationships, morals, values, integrity and etc. All they see is the worth of money in their possessions.

You see, when you have the blessings of the Lord, everything that you needed in this world shall be added unto you. And those things that will be added to you will give you “no headache.” You can sleep like a log at night. You have peace in your heart. You have joy unspeakable. When God blesses you, there is no string attached to it. Rest assured that the blessings will not give you any problems in the future. Yes, the blessings of the Lord will not give you problems in the future.

I have seen people with riches and lots and lots of money but in distress, full of sorrow. Because their life is in ruined, they will spend many years in prison, some have wrecked marriage, others had their friend and family abandoned them. I have also seen men and women who became rich almost overnight, but at the end of the day, they have no place to rest their head – they became homeless overnight too.

As a child of God, the goodness and mercies of the Lord shall follow you all the days of your life. No matter where you are in this planet, He will bless the works of your hands. It does not matter if you live in the middle of famine, or in the poorest corner of this world, God will bless you just like Abraham. Be advised that promotion does not come from the east or from the west; it comes from the Lord, who will not withhold any good thing from you.

“But the meek shall inherit the earth, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace” (Psalm 37:11 NKJ).

Another blessing that belongs to a child of God is a peaceful life. A co-worker of mine used to say that his favorite television game show was “Family Feud.” I thought he was serious about it, but it was a joke. I learned after awhile that his family fights all the time. In short, there is no peace at home. You see, although we live in the middle of the not so perfect society, where crime is rampant, waiting out there, and we are in present danger, our God gives us peace in our hearts.

“But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day” (Deuteronomy 8:18 KJV).

God has given you the power to be wealthy or rich, for you to be an instrument of God to share the Gospel for free, yes for free, in all the corners of the earth. God’s money has a mission. Please put this in proper perspective, that money is one of the practical ways among other things, to easily spread the good news of Christ and to establish His covenant.

If you’re reading this blog, I want you to know that God has been blessing me in all aspects of my life even at the very beginning of my relationship with Him. I don’t need your money and I am not asking for your money. The purpose of these blogs is NOT to generate money, but to share the good news of the Word of God for free, because it is free.
