Living on Top of the World

“Those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits” (Daniel 11:32 NKJ).

“It all depends on who you know, and not what you know.” We have heard this many, many times especially during a hiring or promotional process in private and government sectors. But how true is this claim? Practical wisdom will tell you that the best partner in any mission, or any undertaking, or any job is a person you know very well. A person that you can trust is the best choice of course.

God wants you to be above all situations and circumstances in life. He declares it in Deuteronomy 28:13, “And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath.” It doesn’t matter how religious or spiritual a person could be. If you don’t know God, you will never make it over the top. Your heart may be sincere in doing everything to please God; however, if it is not according to His Word, not according to the principles of God, then it’s going to be a long and painful journey. Nevertheless, the Spirit of the Lord has spoken to us through the Book of Daniel that those who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.

The bottom line is to know God. To live on top of the world, you must have a personal experience with God. This experience is unique, distinctive from other relationships, no comparison to anyone. It is a bond between you and Him alone. It affects your whole being, spirit, soul and body. Because God is a person, He can be understood in a very personal way. He is not a power, a thought, or a principle. He is a living person. People around you may think you have lost your reasons, but be of good cheer, you will do great exploits.

To explain this truth, we have to learn the secret of a successful marriage. Successful and happy marriage is founded on a deep understanding and knowledge between the husband and the wife. You have trusted him/her because of your deep understanding and knowledge of who he/she is. No other person in the whole creation has this deep bond with your lover, soul mate, your husband, your wife, because you are one. In the beginning God designed to have man and woman to become one – husband and wife. Failure to understand one plus one equals one is a total failure. The same truth applies on the secret of living on top of the world. If you don’t know your God, then you are a miserable thing.

The world measures success based on how much material you possess and how famous you are. The world sincerely believes that if your name is on the list of the rich and famous, then you made it. However, the question is, “Made it to where?” Money can’t buy a loving husband or a faithful wife. Riches cannot promise cancer free life, long life, a sound and healthy mind, good night sleep, and peaceful living free from any form of fear and insecurities. As a matter of fact, man hoards riches because of his insecurities.

Jesus said in Matthew 16:26, “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” God does not measure success based on how much you possess or how famous you are. It is the salvation of your soul that God cares about. It is the reason Jesus came to earth and died for you. As a matter of fact, there has been no measure of unit has ever been fathomed that can equal the blood of Jesus.

On the other hand, God’s children are the most powerful and influential creations of this world, if and only if they know the God they are serving. The above Bible verse boldly states that, “the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.” God has the best things for us as He has promised in Jeremiah 29:13, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

To know God, you have to understand His names and titles. For they reveal His character, His personality, and the attitude of His heart. And the scriptures tell us over and over again that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. You see, there is salvation in His name. Salvation means the saving grace and mercy of God to save you from sin and the effects of sin. All of God’s names and titles reveal His goodness. He is a good God.

You probably believe God has given you pain and suffering to teach you a lesson. God does not use cancer, terminal sickness, diseases, freak accident, burning your house, earthquake, tsunami, getting raped, abused, robed, paralyzed, being in coma, and etc. just to teach you a lesson in life. God does not do evil things. He is a good God. All these evil occurrences and evil experiences in the world are direct and indirect work of the devil.

The consequence of sin is death. The truth of the matter and many refuses to admit, that if you live in sin and continue to live in sin the result is death. Death means separation from God. And if separated from God, the devil has the power and the authority to destroy you until you blame God in His face. That is the ultimate goal of the devil: to make a sinner blame God of his miserable life on earth.

You may probably think that God has favorites because you live in a poverty stricken nation while His favorites live in the most expensive and luxurious first world countries. Or you may not like the color of your skin because God has chosen others differ from yours. But God has the best and perfect plan in your life no matter what part in the planet you were born.

Or worse, you probably question God why are there sickness and diseases in this planet, why God did not save your son or daughter or father or mother from a freak accident, fierce calamity or whatever. You maybe accusing God killed your wife, husband, child or pet. All of these searching for an answer really have no straight answer to a person who has no knowledge of the God of the Bible. If you know your God, however, you don’t ask as such.

Those who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits. God is good. The devil is a liar and he is a liar from the beginning. In John 10:10, Jesus revealed that the devil’s work is to steal, to kill and to destroy. You see, people never understand this truth. It is the devil who steals and not God. It is the devil who kills and not God. It is the devil who destroys and not God. God is not in the business of harming us. Jesus came to give us life, and that life is a life abundantly.

People believe the lies of the devil. The devil distorts the character and the goodness of God. When bad thing happen, they hold God responsible. As a matter of fact, God will not withhold any good thing from His children. In Psalm 107:9, “For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.”

It is a fact of life that we experience difficulties, hardships, and sufferings here on earth. However, when we ask for help, God will surely respond to our needs. As children of God, we don’t stay in difficult situation longer than we think. In Psalm 34: 17, 19, “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. … Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.”

Even in the time of harassment, God is there to help us. He will protect us from evil men who plan and desire to destroy us. In Psalm 105:14, “He permitted no one to do them wrong; yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes.”

God will deliver us from the day of trouble. In Psalm 50:15, “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” In Psalm 91:3, 19, “Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from pestilence. … No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling.” In Psalm 27:5, “For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; in the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.” In Psalm 59:16, “…you have been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble.”

The reason you have a good life and in good health, have nice job and a loving family, have a lot of friends and enjoying peace, serving God, is the goodness of God in your life.
