“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17NKJ).
Here is a simple God’s principle – you can have faith as you continue on hearing and hearing the Word of God. Evidently, this simple truth applies also in the physical world. In any endeavor, repetition or doing over and over is a must in order for one to achieve a desired result. In order to perfect one’s trade, one must work on it over and over until he becomes a master.
Faith is the result of continuous hearing of the Word of God. You must listen to the Word over and over until it sinks down in your spirit (heart) before faith gives you the desired result. Also, continuous exposure to the Word by hearing will result in a strong faith.
It is a must that you digest the Word of God which is your spiritual food. As you feed on the Word by hearing and hearing, faith arises. And as you continue to do so, the words in your lips then become faith-words. When you speak the Word of faith, the Word becomes real, it brings life and it breaks through into the physical world.
The Gospel tells us how Jesus made profound spiritual truths. One of the many truths He said is that whatsoever you say, believing in your heart, shall come to pass. Jesus was well aware of this truth. As a matter of fact, He only did what the Father had told Him to do. He obeyed the Father’s Word nothing else.
If you study closely on the teachings of Jesus, He was hard on His disciples especially on the subject of faith. He had rebuked and corrected them many times and challenged them to apply what they’d learned. However, His disciples were unable to grasp the depth and width of His faith teachings. Instead, His disciples were left in awe, marveled on His Word and on His authority and power – His disciples wondered.
Jesus had shown us that faith speaks with authority and power. When faith speaks, what was spoken is settled in heaven and will surely come to pass. Faith’s authority brings the gates of hell in tremble and fear with total surrender to His Word. Faith is fearless with boldness and assurance. Faith never doubts. Faith believes that the Word shall not return void, but it shall accomplish its purpose.
True Biblical faith is founded on the Word of God alone. Jesus stated that His words are life and they are spirit. Only the living Word of God in your heart (spirit) is the foundation of your faith. Faith is not founded on mental knowledge or mental understanding. Faith is a spiritual revelation of the Word of God in your spirit. Therefore, a person who is not born in the spirit shall never understand what faith is. Faith can only be understood by a born again spirit. Faith is the result of intimate fellowship with the Word and with the Spirit of God.
Everything we observed through our five senses has no foundation as the basis of our faith. Only the living of Word of God is. As a matter of fact, at one time Jesus rebuked the crowd and told them that the only reason they believed was because they witnessed signs, wonders, and miracles. In short, they saw (experienced) first and then they believed. That is not faith. True faith is to obey the Word of God first and then the manifestation of the Word follows.
Some became believers because they received physical healings, witnessed signs and wonders, and miracles. There is nothing wrong with these experiences. As a matter of fact, some of these experiences were the manifestations of the integrity of the Word of God. However, it is dangerous when faith is founded on experience. You must understand that Biblical faith is based on the living Word of God alone and nothing else.
When testing of faith comes, believers needed a solid foundation of their faith. And that solid foundation is the Word of God, not experience. They need to put their faith on the Word, faith on the integrity of the Word of God. Listen to Habakkuk 3:17 (NKJ),
“Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; though the labor of the olive may fall, and the fields yield no food; the flock may be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls – yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.”
Faith never gives up. Faith never quits. Faith never wavers, never rattles, never doubts. Faith is fearless. Faith is bold and full of assurance. Faith always expects victory and blessings. Faith is now – now is your time to rejoice in the Lord.
You see, whatever situation you are in at this moment, you must consider them according to the Word of God because we walk by faith and not by sight. We are in total submission to obey His Word. When God says we are victorious and overcomer, then we are. When Jesus became poor that we may become rich, then we are rich. When God says we have the mind of Christ, then we have His mind indeed. When God says we are complete in Christ, then we are complete in Him.
You see, you need to have God’s Word sink down in your heart (your spirit) to understand His Word and become obedient to what God says. Therefore, you must saturate your heart with His Word. You must continue hearing and hearing the Word so that faith may arise in your heart.
Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the rest of the men of God who lived the life of faith have one thing in common. They have no difficulty obeying the Word of God. They took the Word as the final authority in their walk of faith.
Countless believers have fallen in their faith walk because they were stubborn and stiff-neck, and had failed to obey the Word. For example, they deliberately refused to obey this simple Word of God – Be holy because I am Holy.
You see, the Word of God is the only foundation of faith. Experience is a good thing, however, not all experience are according to the Word of God.
Also, be warned that the word of man shall never be the basis of faith. Man’s word fails. At times man lies. Therefore, anyone who claims to be a “mouth piece of God,” must be subjected to a micro-investigation if indeed what he speaks is according to the written Word of God.
Faith can only come though the hearing and hearing of the Word of God, not word coming from of a man.
