James Wants You Healed

“Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven. Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” (James 5:14-16 NLT)

The scriptures above settle the issue of divine healing if taken literally, without prejudice from human interpretations which are based on theology and denominational doctrines. In short, you must allow the letter of the apostle James to speak for its self. Don’t let the unbelieving church bench warmers lie to you and steal your healing because you pay attention to their past negative experience in life, complaining that God did not heal them. Of course that is a lie, because Jesus healed everybody who came to Him for healing. As a matter of fact, many received their healing without Jesus laying His hands on them. His presence and His word healed them.

First, James is against sickness in the body of Christ. He confronted sickness by instructing the sick person to call for the elders of the church to come and pray over him. Evidently, James and the elders of the church knew that sickness is not acceptable. Otherwise, they don’t need to attempt to come and pray for the sick. Common sense dictates, why waste time of praying if healing is not guaranteed.

A faithless religious asks, “And how do we know if God with His sovereign act will grant healing for the sick?” This question is rooted from ignorance of the personality and character of God. Only a person without a quality relationship with the person of God can be able to doubt and challenge the loving heart of God. The answer to this question is that God has already granted healing. The God of the Old Testament is a Healing God. God told His people that He is Jehovah-Rapha, meaning God heals, Exodus 15:26, “… For I am the Lord who heals you.”

In the new covenant, Jesus took your sin, sickness, and poverty with him in His death and resurrection. He nailed them to the cross, and buried them to the grave. He then resurrected with newness of life. Christ has overcome sin, sickness, and poverty. Therefore, in Christ, you are made free from sin, sickness and poverty. You are made free from the effects of sin. Healing of your physical body is yours in Christ. The Bible testifies of this truth. Only a lie from hell will tell you of the opposite.

Second, James is saying that a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make him well. This is self explanatory. According to the letter, when you pray in faith, you will be healed and the Lord will make you well. Meaning, you must first apply faith in your prayer and then healing will follow. In Hebrews 11:1, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Applying this principle of faith, when you pray, accept that you are healed even though you don’t see that you are healed. The evidence of course that you are healed is your faith according to Hebrews 11:1.

James is the one who preaches that faith without corresponding action is dead or useless. James wants you to put the word into action. Don’t put it in your mind as an additional knowledge and leave it there. Putting the word in action is obeying what the word of God tells you to do. If the word says that you are healed by the stripes of Jesus, then obey that word. Act healed because that is what the word of God say, isn’t it? The word did not say that you will going to be healed. But you were already healed. In new covenant, your sickness or disease was nailed on the cross when Jesus was hanged on the tree. He took the curse of death and the curse of and sickness, and nailed them to the cross.

Third, James is saying to confess your sins to be healed. Evidently, James knew the correlation between healing and sin. No matter how many times you have been prayed for, and have accepted your healing, if you are living in sin you will remain in sickness. Sin separates you from the presence of God. The Bible tells that sin has many consequences. One obvious result of sin is spiritual and physical death. Others had suffered from sickness and diseases because of sin. Some were defeated and held captives by their enemies.

Sin or sins separates you from the presence of the Holy God. If you are a sin practionnaire, then your prayers are not going to go anywhere. They’re stuck in your mouth. There is no substance for God to hear you. Repentance and renewing of the mind will get you out from a sink hole. The word of God will keep you from evil ways, therefore stay in His word.

Fourth, James is saying that the prayer of a righteous man produces wonderful results. When you accepted Christ as Lord of your life, you become righteous in God’s eyes. You become righteous not of your own righteousness, but Christ’s righteousness. However, as a child of God and part of growing in faith, sometimes you miss the mark. Nevertheless, God is faithful and just to forgive you when you confess your sins.

You receive the gift of righteousness in Christ. This righteousness will change your heart and mind into a bold and fearless man of God. You can come boldly unto the throne of Grace and will receive mercy and help in time of needs. This righteousness is the confidence that God has forgiven you and called you into His presence.

Keep in mind that your prayer is powerful and gives results because of the righteousness of Christ in you. And every moment you approach the throne of grace of God, He hears you. You become bold to enter into God’s throne because of this righteousness, with no iota of guilt and condemnation.

If you are a child of God with ailments in your physical body, learn to obey the word of God. You must obey what James has written if you want to receive your healing. The Father in heaven knows that you wanted to be healed, and He has provided healing long time ago through Christ. Receive your healing and begin to enjoy it.
