The Power of the Knowledge of God and His Confidence

Knowledge and confidence are the two most powerful tools you can use to survive in any given test, trials and tribulations in this present life. They will keep you clean from the filth of this corrupt world.

The Book of Hosea 4:6 declares, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Obviously, one way of failing a test is either you don’t know the answers to the questions, or you failed to show up on the day of examination. Therefore, lack of knowledge or being unprepared for a coming test is a recipe for failure.

Isaiah 30:15 also says, “In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.” Confidence will keep you calm. In the midst of trouble or terror, you remain still because of the confidence in you. You have the assurance that you can top it over and will come out a winner.

Dictionary defines knowledge as, “the fact or condition of knowing something with familiarity gained through experience or association.” The same is true with confidence. Confidence is gained from learning the hard lessons of life through personal experiences and through positive influence from people you associate with. Have you ever notice how confident people respond to a challenge? They boldly say, “Been there, done that.” They’ve been in that situation, they’ve learned how to deal with it, and confident enough to take care of business. You see, Hosea is not addressing the intellectual knowledge here, but spiritual understanding of the knowledge of Christ. Confidence knows and believes in what you have in Christ.

Lack of knowledge is ignorance of the Word of God. It destroys confidence and brings in confusion. It will put you in bondage to sin and the effects of sin. No doubt, the devil will do everything to keep you ignorant and keep the truth from being known. The devil will continue to lie and twist the Word of God, and he will distort, exaggerate and fake it. The devil will continue to use spiritually dead men to spread his lies and pervert the Scripture. They sincerely believe that the Scripture can be studied and can be learned just like any other books; however, without the revelation of the Spirit they remain blind. Instead of finding the wisdom of God, they succumbed into depraved minds. They placed God in the box and created a systematic definition of who God is to satisfy their reasoning. Indeed, a spiritually dead man cannot receive the knowledge of God, for without the Spirit of God nobody can understand His Word.

On the other hand, God desires to educate our hearts and minds through His Word. He gave His Word to reveal Himself and to make known what manner of men those who believe in Him. And the only way to gain knowledge of His Word is through the power of the Holy Spirit. Before ascending to heaven, Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will teach and guide his disciples into all truth. Jesus also said, “And you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” Free from what? Free form all forms of evil because Jesus has paid the price for you. His blood has made you free from sin, sickness and poverty.

The believer needed to grasp that God’s abundant blessing is limitless and inexhaustible. In Christ, the believer is saved from sin and delivered from the power and effects of sin. And as a child of God, he has access to God’s great and exceeding grace. Also, the Bible declares that the believer shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes. As a matter of fact, during Jesus’ earthly ministry, every place he goes the power of God is present. Multitudes follow him and the power of God is always there to meet their needs – heal the sick and deliver those who are possessed by the devil. That same power which is in Jesus is also present in every believer’s life. It is the presence of the Holy Spirit in the believer that brings the power of God to meet the needs of people around him. Jesus told his disciples that greater things than this shall they do because of the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is talking about the manifestation of God’s power through the presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of every believer.

Now, every believer has to have the knowledge and the confidence in the power of the Holy Spirit that is in him. He should know that Jesus has given him the authority over the devil and over the works of darkness, and that the enemy is under his feet. Also, he should not fear because fear has no place in the kingdom of God. Fear is just another attempted bluff from a condemned evil force. A believer has to convince himself that fear is not of God, and he shall resist the devil, and the devil shall flee away in the Name of Jesus. Furthermore, a believer needs to know that he is fighting a good fight of faith. It is a good fight of faith because he is fighting against an already defeated foe.

Howbeit then, who can understand the Word of God? Only those who are born in the spirit can understand God’s Word. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 2: 14, “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” According to Paul, spiritual reality can only be understood by those who have the life of God, alive in the spirit. In verse 10, “But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes the deep things of God.” Evidently, it is impossible for a man, who is not born again, to understand the knowledge of God. He is spiritually dead and has no fellowship with the Spirit of God. A dead man’s spirit has no life in it. He is at lost. He is in darkness and has no capability to understand God’s truth. His spirit is perverted and his mind thinks highly against God, and he rejects the knowledge of God. If you are not born again, then you have no right to speak for God.

Jesus told Nicodemus the Pharisee that no man can enter and see the kingdom of God unless he is born again or born from above or born in the spirit. Although Nicodemus was a religious leader, he could not comprehend Jesus the night he visited him. Jesus had to tell him that spiritual things can only be understood by spiritual things. Nicodemus has to be born again to understand the kingdom of God. It is only through the spirit of man can God reveal the things of God. Human intellect or reasoning cannot understand spiritual things. As a matter of fact, human reason only believes anything based on his five senses. Otherwise, you are a fool they claim. The truth is, it is impossible for a finite mind to comprehend spiritual matters.

However, a born again believer who is born in the spirit is able to understand spiritual things. It is natural for him to grow in the spiritual knowledge of Christ. The apostle James said “Like new born babes, desire the sincere milk of the word of God that you may grow there by.” Every born again believer craves for God’s spiritual food. There is a hunger in the Word of God. As he feeds in the Word, the Spirit of God reveals God’s thoughts and God’s desires. His Word becomes his wisdom and his knowledge. He meditates the Word night and day. He prays the Word. He speaks the Word. He believes the Word. He obeys the Word. He lives by the Word. The Word is real in his life. Moreover, the Word has physical manifestations in his life. He bears the fruit of the righteousness of God along with the fruit of the Holy Spirit. He is full of faith. In the midst of storms in life, he refuses to speak defeat. He resists the devil and declares victory and that he can do all things in Christ Jesus. He prays with expectancy, for he is confident enough that God the Father will answer him because he knows his God.
